Lessons Learned
- Early-stage product validation requires feet on the street; the on-site verification process was critical to building user trust and marketplace liquidity.
- Mass-market front-end development must prioritize radical simplicity and light performance to eliminate onboarding drop-offs for first-time digital users.
The Recruitment Paradox in Retail & Hospitality
The conventional job application process in Indonesia’s retail, F&B, and hospitality sectors has historically been fragmented and inefficient. Job seekers frequently printed dozens of physical resumes, traveling door-to-door with no guarantee of a response. Conversely, business owners and managers faced immense administrative fatigue and time constraints, manually filtering through stacks of paper CVs trying to find the right fit.
Gawean was founded to bridge this gap for both sides. For job seekers, we introduced a Selective Verification Process—physically visiting locations and interviewing managers to provide transparent workplace insights. For employers, we streamlined the top-of-funnel pipeline through our proprietary Gawean Point Average (GPA) scoring system, matching candidate skill sets to business needs instantly.

Engineering "Inclusivity" Across Platforms
As the Front-End Developer on the founding team, my responsibility was to translate our creative direction and UX wireframes into a production-ready, highly responsive web application.
Given that a significant portion of our target audience was not yet accustomed to looking for employment over the internet, the front-end architecture focused heavily on removing accessibility barriers:
- Zero-Friction Layouts: Designed an incredibly intuitive, lightweight job-board and profile builder to maximize completion rates and accommodate users on lower-end mobile devices and slower network speeds.
- Data-Driven Dashboard Integration: Seamlessly connected front-end interfaces with our state-of-the-art back-end scoring engine. This empowered busy business owners to evaluate and shortlist recommended candidates in a single click, eliminating manual resume sorting entirely.

The ultimate challenge of building Gawean was driving a behavioral shift. Our decision to execute physical, on-site verifications for every single merchant became the foundation that validated our data and drove platform adoption.
